Will Liverpool get over 100 Points in 2019/20 Premier League?

The astonishing Premier League dominance by Liverpool this season gives us the tantalising possibility that Jurgen Klopp’s team will get over 100 points by the end of play at the away match at St James Park on Sunday 17 May.  Bookmaker Skybet is offering odds of 8/13 for a 100 points end-of-season result to eager punters who believe the Liverpool side will continue to crush its opposition in the next 15 weeks.

So far this season, Liverpool has won 22 of their 23 matches (with a draw against Manchester United back in October the only match to blot their copybook) and with 15 matches to go – and a 16 point lead over rivals Manchester City – the relentless advance towards winning the Premier League title looks unstoppable.

Liverpool fans have been waiting twenty nine long years for their team to pick up the Premier League trophy and 52-year old manager Jurgen Klopp is keen to ensure his team is in the best place to achieve this goal.  His decision to play a reserve team in the recent FA Cup Fourth round match against Shrewsbury attracted criticism and his plan to not even personally attend the forthcoming replay is attracting yet more with the Football Association said to be very concerned that the FA Cup and its long traditions are being disrespected to maximise Liverpool’s success in the Premier League.  But Klopp is understandably miffed that the replay takes place during the Winter Break and intends to field his reserve team once more despite the criticism. Jamie Carragher, former Liverpool defender and now football pundit, took to Twitter to express his displeasure saying “Senior players having a winter break is right, you can’t have implemented one and then have a replay in the break.  But Klopp should take the team”.

The maximum number of points Liverpool could gain in their final fifteen matches of the season is 45, which would give them a total of 112.   Manchester City currently hold the record for maximum number of points, having gained 100 in the 2017/18 season. So Liverpool do have a realistic opportunity to get over 100 points and, in fact, Skybet is also offering odds of 7/2 for 105+ points and 25/1 for 110+ points.

Skybet, the only bookie in the Liverpool points market at present, also offers odds of 18/1 that Liverpool with be unbeaten in the Premier League and will win the Champions League.  However, Manchester City remain favourites to win the Champions League (with odds of 17/4 from bookmaker Unibet) and the Round of 16 includes other quality opposition such as Atletico Madrid, Tottenham, Chelsea, Bayern Munich.  Winning the double would be a dream come true for Klopp and his stellar team. Can Liverpool sustain their current form to achieve this goal? Only time will tell!
