New Sunderland manager Jack Ross will have been delighted to have secured three points in his first official game in charge of the club with his side securing victory in the ninety sixth minute !
The former St Mirren manager made some astute tactical changes at half time in the opener against Charlton Athletic at the Stadium of Light and his decisions paid off as Lynden Gooch headed a superb winner for the Black Cats . After the game Ross commented :
“Naturally, I am delighted to win the game and to start the season with a win – there is no better way to win a game than that! “There are easier and less stressful ways, though!
Thoughts of manager and new owner Stuart Donald now turn to further player acquisitions with the transfer deadline on Thursday August 9th . Sunderland have signed eleven new players already this season but manager Ross is desperate to bring further new faces to the club prior to the deadline including a new striker .
Charlton fans visiting Sunderland for the game were able to take the opportunity to visit the Grosvenor Casino which is situated in the city centre just a short 10 minute walk from the Stadium Of Light . Footfall at many land based casinos has dropped in recent years as online casinos such as Jackpot City Casino have become increasingly popular . Many city centres including Sunderland have undergone regeneration in recent times but are still affected by high costs forcing many shops and businesses to relocate to alternative premises or close altogether .
With just short of 32 000 fans attending the opening Division 1 league game at the Stadium of Light this weekend all city centre establishments will be hoping that Sunderland can improve on their home form of recent seasons and continue to pull in the crowds for a full day/evening of entertainment for the remainder of this season at least .
